My Hambleden 2016 photos came out better than I expected. This was my first event back after a long winter break where I’ve barely photographed a horse. When the organisers announced the cancelation of Saturday’s classes due to heavy over night rain I was trying to talk myself into heading in the other direction to Bicton Arena. Thankfully the forecast changed and Sunday’s classes could go ahead. The going was a little soft but the ground held up well. Most importantly the bluebells were out in abundance. There must me millions of them in these woods!

Either there was a particularly strong NZL contingent at Hambleden or I was just bumping into all of them. Andrew Nicholson, Dan Jocelyn, Lucy Jackson, Tim Price, Jonelle Price all appeared in my view finder at least twice. There was a great stretch of bluebells that most riders were navigating at a steady canter. Andrew Nicholson however was leaving nothing on the clock, and ran the course at his usual steady gallop. He’s definitely back, and looks to be on form!
Hambleden is one of those events that makes me eager to get back in the saddle again, if only to ride here again.
